PB12-PLUS SUBWOOFER
![]()

There are many ways you could make a great performing sub, but to wrap up world-class performance, with furniture-grade cabinetry and keep it affordable? That's the trick. Few manufacturers even try to build an affordable product with this sort of quality, Not at this sort of price point certainly. Most will tell you "too hard...too little profit involved". It's much easier to simply come up with a so-so performer, cover it in some nice looking vinyl and call it a day. As you can see the PB12-Plus is no faux-wood-wannabe.
Clearly, SVS cares little about "what's easy to do" and this sub is more proof of that. The beautiful cabinet is indeed worthy of the phrase "hand-built craftsmanship".
Since it is available in 4 stunning imported wood finishes, gloss black and fine textured black, the PB12-Plus will fit into nearly any decor. This isn't some pre-fabricated piece either. They're computer designed and exclusively built to our exacting specifications. hand assembled and of course tested. It's as much art as audio speaker.
The result is one piece of audio gear you'll steal a glance at every time you walk in your room. But SVS is nothing if high-performance isn't integral to the mix. The PB12-Plus delivers that in spades. Using technology first developed for our wildly popular PC-Plus subs, including the stellar "Plus" woofer and our proprietary Canadian-Built BASH amp. Just to sweeten the pot further, all PB12-Plus subs with the hot new wood or gloss black even include a built-in parametric equalizer (PEQ) which allows most room-induced frequency response "peaks" to be tamed. Fine textured black models have basic version of this same amp, including variable tuning. The PC-Plus line of cylinder subs remain the price/performance leaders in this class of sub, but if a box form factor, wood or gloss finish is your thing and you demand world-class performance, this is your sub.

Subwoofer PB12-Plus series
Not quite sure where your sub's parts come from? How about a small factory in rural Ohio? The SVS PB12-Plus is another example of a component set we're quite proud to highlight in detail. If a sub's brain is the amplifier, then the heart must be the woofer. The third generation Plus woofer (which we call the Plus 12.3) runs counter to virtually every trend in the industry: It's made by us, it's made in our Ohio factory, we released it when we were good and ready and knowing full well that it's predecessor was already unmatched in this price class. Oh, and it's expensive to make (but hey, you're worth it). More than ever it rivals it's more expensive Ultra brother, taking the Plus legacy and upping the ante in every performance aspect a bit more.
But a world-class woofer is only part of the picture. Using high performance parts like our efficient 3" patented port flare assemblies, coupled with hand-finished hardwood construction on the cabinet and a famed BASH amp with 525 watts RMS... you get performance that's a virtual sonic clone of our more reserved looking PC-Plus cylinders. When Sound Stage reviewers tested the PC-Plus they said they'd "not heard a better subwoofer at several multiples of it's price". We think we'll earn similar accolades for the PB12-Plus by using the below parts:

When you start out to better a design as good as the second generation SVS Plus woofer, you have your hands full. The "old" woofer (called the dB 12.2 in house and used in all Plus subs till late February 2006) was already the industry leader at this price point. Typically rivaling drivers costing 2-3X as much, it was compact, reasonably good looking, with excellent durability and off-the-map performance exceeded only by our own Ultra woofers. Make an even better Plus woofer and keep the price the same? It was a very tough task that might never have happened. It took over 2 years of developmental work and experimentation with emerging materials and design, all put through a gauntlet of extreme testing in our R/D labs. Every "old" performance chart was dissected; some beta-testers got into the feedback loop; rare failed second generation woofers we're put under the knife too.
It wasn't easy or cheap but our development team came up with a clean sheet of paper design that looks better, works better and is more durable than the last Plus woofer. Looking close you'll see little touches like elegant black anodized finish that helps dissipate heat, evidence of special spider tooling which keeps that critical part aligned, with much more. This is a woofer that'll keep it's composure in anything from subtle, to extreme use. Even less obvious state of the art adhesives are expertly used in small batch-and-butter component, all the custom design and assembly was done in-house, where production will continue. In a day when whole product lines, whole brands are routinely sent to lowest cost bidders overseas, your Plus woofer once again bucks the trend.
While our entry level ISD remain the high-performance budget choice in subs like the PB12-ISD, if you can afford to step up a bit to the PB12-Plus, you will get far more "bang for the buck" then you ever imagined with this amazing achievement in woofer design. Affordable performance doesn't get any better than this. What sort of driver does your old subwoofer have?

525 Watt RMS Built-In BASH Amplifier

Yet another high output full-featured digital switching amp born out of the partnership between SVS and Indigo Manufacturing, one of the most capable and largest original equipment manufacturers in the world. Built in Canada to exacting standards seldom seen in this price class, it's rugged, clean layout and construction serves as a perfect complement to SVS Powered Boxes. Quite literally, thousands of man-hours are expended dialing in performance that perfectly matches the PB12-Plus woofer and it's enclosure. As always, we even made sure our own logo graced this amp as a reminder that no other subwoofer manufacturer has it and since you can only get one on your SVS, you won't see them floating around the various "do-it-yourself" e-tailers either. Isn't it nice to know your amp was made just for your sub?
Don't let the conservative real-world power rating deceive you. Given our latest US-made drivers and the exceptionally efficient SVS box designs, the SVS PB12-Plus can embarrass other subwoofers touting many thousands of watts.

BASH is a proven class of amplification, answering the market needs for efficiency without compromising sound quality. BASH is a patented "High Efficiency Linear Amplifier" circuit topology that has taken the best of Class D and Class AB and created a new Class of it's own. By combining a fast response power converter with a linear amplifier, BASH is able to maintain both Class AB sonic performance and Class D efficiency.

BASH can produce high power levels without cost penalties typically associated with conventional amplifier designs. A linear amplifier rated at 100 Watts should be able to deliver 20 Watts continuously. If the same amplifier is to play musical transients that are 10dB louder than it's rated power, the amplifier must be able to deliver 1000 Watts dynamically. To deliver such dynamic power would require the internal power supply rails to be 350% higher resulting in increases to heat sinks, power transformer, bulk capacitors, output devices and ultimately increases the cost.
BASH provides customers new solutions, opens new markets, offers greater flexibility and ultimately reduces the cost of amplification.
Flush-mount Amp Configuration
What makes the PB12-Plus so unique? Well, besides the fact it's packed with components normally only found in subs costing thousands more, is the fact SVS sweats little details like mounting it's amp flush, safe and secure in one of the nicest looking and best built box subwoofer in the world. We use drum turned hardwood dowels machined in Maine, hand-crafted cabinet, ports made in Illinois, hard anodized black leg-bolts from Tennessee, even foam pad feet from Wisconsin. Could we have slapped the amp, surface mounted into a square edged vinyl wrapped (or faux wood finish) box made for a few dollars? Yes we could have. All the advantages of a subwoofer box, with the convenience of an "all in one", built-in amp. That's the PB12-Plus... proudly built in the USA with the best quality domestic and imported components and only available at SVS Subwoofers.
Integrated Base Plate with Down-firing Woofer and Floor Mounts
No matter how your rock rolls, or how low your organ goes, the shockwaves emanating from that high efficiency woofer propagate out from a fixed platform, our integrated base-plate. Not the floor and not your ceiling. When you're in the midst of your favorite action movie scene you might wonder if such a stylish, modern looking enclosure can really move your home theater (without moving around itself). Fortunately for SVS customers, all the drama will be on screen and all around you in gut pounding, accurate bass. Your subwoofer will serenely be belting it out at all the right moments. Rock solid. Utterly unflappable.
Want another example of thinking different? How about something simple, like putting our drivers in the preferred downward firing position. But doing it this way makes for the most stable enclosure. It's low center of gravity and an inherently well-protected woofer means years of rock-solid performance. Bas that goes this low, starts there too.
So maybe you have a hard floor and it's time to setup your sub? You won't find hard plastic feet that might vibrate on your SVS Subwoofer. Instead the default mounting configuration is a set of compliant foam discs perfectly suited for wood, vinyl or tile flooring. Because our subs have such a low center of gravity the same setup works just as well on thickly padded and carpeted floors too.
Precision Tuned High-Flow Port

Computer-designed and Patented, these high-flow, low noise ports are made in the USA and an industry standard. Why fix what isn't broke? (But we do get them at a great price on your behalf it helps when you are on a first name basis with the inventor!). 3" of free flowing internal space and nearly 6" at their outer flare, these costly parts can breathe better then 4" straight ports. But just to be sure those killer woofers aren't constrained in any way, we pack three of them into the PB12-Plus.
Multiple Extension Design

Multiple ways to configure your extension (how deep a sub goes) means you the customer can experiment with "lower than low" bass at your leisure. As it is, the PB12-Plus is set in stock mode to 20Hz (with all three ports firing), which will yield strong response to under 20Hz with mid-sized rooms and corner placement. Above this point is where 99% of all music and movie bass is centered. It also is the most efficient mode for the PB12-Plus; with amazing sound pressure level capacity and incredible accuracy to the source material at all sound pressure levels, low or loud. Want deeper? If your willing to give up a few decibels in SPL capacity above 20Hz (and the PB12-Plus has more "headroom" than most will use), then insert one, or even two port plugs, click over the subsonic filters knob to the corresponding 16Hz or 12Hz position and you are there. Most users would experience strong output to around 15Hz with good placement in a typical room with a 20Hz setup. This is the sort of bass that is just plain scary when done with low distortion. But it's one of the reasons SVS is so famous! Room size and shape will largely determine how much. Of course for those desirous of impeccable natural wood finishes the Plus will be worth the price of admission even without more performance.
Hand-Finished Hardwood Construction

Thousands of hours go into optimizing the materials, finish, bracing and layout of every SVS box. Using state of the art computer assisted design (CAD) and our relentless regimen of simulations and extensive real-world measurements, no other manufacturer makes a more robust and acoustically inert enclosure then SVS. Using a 1" medium density fiberboard (MDF) core with extremely high grade clear real wood veneers and rounded edges, ourPB12-Plus panels are meticulously machined with procedures reserved for the best high end cabinetry. Hand assembled and finished with a multi-step process that's an SVS secret. With one of four stunning wood finishes (or piano gloss or fine textured black too) this is as much fine furniture for your home theater or music room as it is a subwoofer!.
